Breaking Strongholds

At the dawn of the New Year 2020, we will seek to unlock
spiritual fortresses as we study God’s Word together.

The Apostle Paul wrote, “For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh, for the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh, but divinely powerful for the destruction of fortresses. We are destroying speculations and every lofty thing raised up against the knowledge of God, and we are taking
every thought captive to the obedience of Christ.”

The word ‘fortresses’  means strongholds – an area of darkness within our mind or personality that causes ongoing spiritual, emotional, and often behavioral problems. We can be truly born-again, and sincere in our faith, but have an ongoing struggle with our thoughts, emotions, and habits that wage war against our relationship with the Lord Jesus. We study, pray, and strive, yet we discover that our “problem” is resistant to real and lasting change. Strongholds come in many shapes and
sizes …

¨ Bondage to sin, like pornography or sexual sin.

¨ Explosive temper.

¨ Fragile self-worth.

¨ Bitterness, jealousy, or envy

This month we will study God’s Word as we seek His power to be free from the strongholds we personally struggle with. Prayerfully study with us as we learn that conventional,
man-made methods are useless in tearing down strongholds, but that the weapons we use must be empowered by God
Himself. Use this time to seek the Lord for areas in your heart that need His “freedom” touch.
